Therefore, our objective is to ensure all personnel are given an equal opportunity to undertake relevant training both at induction and throughout their career with the company. The company acknowledge the vital importance and value of a broad and comprehensive training curriculum and pledge to ensure the delivery of a consistent and carefully managed training programme.

BHPSS Training at the University of Derby - an SIA approved training authority

All new BHPSS recruits must attend an initial four day SITO Induction Training Programme which includes basic training and conflict management modules. At the end of this training programme a written examination must be undertaken based on each training module. On completion of this examination the candidate must have achieved a minimum pass rate of 75%. Failure to achieve this mandatory standard will prohibit the candidate from further progression within the company and Industry.

SITO Training
The mandatory SITO training standard is widely recognised as the Security Industry standard of basic achievement and a pre-requisite to further training to NVQ standard and above. This standard has been widely accepted and recognised as a vital element of the professional Security Officers education and has been chosen by the Home Office as an absolute condition for the issue of a licence to operate within the Manned Guarding Industry following the implementation of the licensing Legislation. Strict rules also apply to the maintenance of training rooms Qualifications of training Officers and the issue of certification through the SITO organisation.

After the recruit has successfully passed the induction course and have received their licence, he/she will be allocated to his/her assignment. Prior to deployment the training officer will ensure that the candidate undergoes specific assignment training either within the classroom or more commonly at our clients premises. The company takes the view that generally, site specific training is more readily absorbed in a situational environment. The duration of this training will depend upon the complexity of the site and the nature of the security specification.

However, BHPSS will ensure that the assignment manpower levels are fully observed with existing trained staff, in order to maintain a stable and professional service. Whilst induction training provides basic insight into general fire fighting and first aid skills, we have the facility to further train staff in specialist courses should this be necessary. For example, we can arrange for full First Aid Training to the First Aid at Work standards as recognised by the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation’s 1981. All BHPSS first aid training is carried out by the internationally recognised authority St Johns Ambulance.

Our policy is to train all Supervisory staff in the security procedures of your premises to additional emergency cover, and to ensure that the Supervisors have a clear understanding of procedures to assist them in their quality control procedures.  In addition, we will train relief Security Officers to cover sickness, holidays and additional manpower requirements.

Conflict Management Training
This mandatory training course ensures that all BHPSS Officers are equipped to deal with interpersonal conflict with empathy, understanding and professionalism. Ensuring that difficult or threatening situations do not spiral into conflict or aggression the BHPSS Officer is fully trained to protect not only the clients assets but his/her own personal well being.

Training Modules
Where systems may change or new practices or standards are introduced BHPSS will ensure an on going review of training procedures to ensure that all our staff are fully trained and capable to meet their objectives accurately safely and professionally. Specific training modules will be introduced wherever or whenever these demands arise.

Fire Wardens
BHPSS will be pleased to train all Security Officers to Fire Warden status on request.
